SBA's 2010 Wisconsin Small Business Person of the Year and Honorable Mention Winners Announced!

Milwaukee, WI - Cheryl Sment, President of Interstate Sealant & Concrete, Inc. has been named the Wisconsin Small Business Person of the Year for 2010 by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Interstate Sealant and Concrete (ISC) has been in business since 1998 and is located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. ISC specializes in pavement maintenance and restoration in concrete as well as asphaltic concrete. Their services include joint sealing, crack sealing, spall repair, and patching on roads and airports.

Cheryl began her career in nursing in 1987 and spent the next 17 years focusing on emergency care and critical care transport. In the early 1990's, Cheryl embarked on several entrepreneurial adventures that included subdivision development, home building, co-owner of a retail franchise and pavement and maintenance repair. Cheryl could be classified as a serial entrepreneur who has had great success at the many projects she has been involved in.

During Interstate Sealant and Concrete's first four years, Cheryl worked as a Clinical Care Nurse as well as holding the position of CEO of ISC. After the four years, Cheryl left her nursing position to work fulltime at ISC. Today, Interstate Sealant and Concrete does business across the country at Department of Transportation and federal contracting levels. ISC is a certified W/DBE D.O.T. in 28 states. Recently, both Cheryl's husband Jeff and son Steven joined ISC full-time. Cheryl is well-versed in the construction industry and is knowledgeable about many city and state construction requirements. Under Cheryl's leadership, ISC has earned a reputation as a business that provides the highest level of quality and knowledge in the industry and stands behind their work.

Throughout her career, Cheryl has given her time to educating and supporting others. As a teenage nursing student, Cheryl was involved in a debilitating accident, sustaining injuries from a drunk driver. This experience as well as her nursing experience, led her to participate in organizations like Safe Kids Wisconsin and PARC-Preventing Alcohol Related Crashes. Working with young adults in the construction industry led Cheryl to her involvement with Rawhide, a residential treatment facility for troubled teenage boys.

Cheryl is among 53 top small business persons -- one from each state, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands, and Guam -- who will be honored at SBA's National Small Business Week events May 23 - 25, 2010 in Washington, D.C. As the winner of the Wisconsin Small Business Person of the Year Award, Cheryl could be named National Small Business Person of the Year during the national event.

The 2010 Wisconsin Small Business Persons of the-Year Honorable Mention award winners are Diane Reis, President, Steve Reis, Vice President and Ronald Butt, Sales Manager of Profile Finishing Systems, Inc. in Kaukauna and Waukesha, Wisconsin. Steve and Diane started Profile Finishing Systems, Inc. in 2000 in response to increased demand from their existing customer base for “off-site” surface cleaning, preparation and finishing services in their Coatco berts, Inc. business. Both businesses are industrial “on-site” painters serving commercial and industrial customers by providing general painting, coating of tank linings, floor coatings and stripping, corrosion protection, blasting, lead removal and vacuuming. Despite the down economy, Profile Finishing and Coatco continue to grow sales and create new jobs, adding on average, six new employees per year since 2003.

The Wisconsin SBA celebration of our Small Business winners will be June 4, 2010 at SBA and SCORE's Awards Presentation Breakfast at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee. For more information, please contact Mary Trimmier at (414) 297-1093 or email her at:
